Cell membranes:
- particles flow through the cell membrane from higher concentration to a lower concentration
- there is an overall net movement
- substances move in and out by diffusion, osmosis and active transport
Diffusion is the movement of particles (net) from a high concentration to a low concentration
Osmosis is the net movement of water molecules through a partially permeable membrane from a region of higher water conc. to a region of lower water conc.
Active Transport is the movement of particles against a concentration
Turgid is when water enters a plant cell and pushes on the cell causing the cell to swell opposite of flaccid
